I talked to my dad the other night and of course, first thing he asks me, is whether or not we had seen the movie.
As we discussed it, I realized we both had gotten completely different things out of it. He saw an homage to the film 2001 (which I have not seen yet) and a parody of cruise ship tours. More of what our society is right NOW then what it could continue to be in the future.
After the conversation, I realized I had forgotten one of my favorite aspects of the film: that the 'broken' robots, the ones put in to be fixed, that can't stop painting the floor, or putting makeup on things, or hitting things, those are the ones that end up help saving the day. While we have come quite far as a society in how we treat those with developmental or mental disabilities, I think we have even further to go, in realizing how much value everyone really has.
